-
Practice responding to questions with
a friend, co-worker or associate.
-
Always try to repeat the question
to others in the audience. This allows everyone to hear the question and
be involved, respectfully acknowledges the person asking the question and
gives you some time to think of your response.
-
Never interrupt a question or finish
a question from an audience member.
-
Make sure you understand the question
before answering. If you're not sure what they are asking, then ask for
clarification.
-
Breath! (This is especially important
if you encounter a really tough question.)
-
Learn the art of bridging. Answer
the question in such a way that it connects the participant's question to
the point you're trying to make.
-
Don't guess if you don't know. Being
honest about not knowing an answer, then sharing your willingness to try
and find the answer for them may end up making you more points in the long
run.
-
You don't have to know the answer
to all the questions but you do have to always address the questions that
are asked.
-
Don't allow one or two participants
to take over and dominate the session. Be prepared with some graceful statements
that allow you to maintain control of the time and presentation.
-
Present your answers in such a way
that everyone in the audience can understand what you are saying.
-
Let your audience know that you will
be available afterwards.
-
Close with a short, powerful positive
message that appeals to their emotions and serves as a final call to action.
