Frequently asked questions:
1. What is a Site License? Site licenses are defined in several ways. In general, they are designed to enhance utilization of a program and decrease costs associated with the individual use of an intellectual property. The QPR Sustainability Site License is what is called a multiple user site license. It means that the number of participants trained is limited to the number of individual access accounts purchased. The organization decides to whom access will be granted. The license is assigned to one organization name and cannot be transferred or used by another organization. Please note that the online program, per se, remains on the QPR Institute server and a customized portal is provided to the licensee. The motivation behind this site license is to sustain suicide prevention education over time. Back to top 2. Within our organization who will have access to QPR online training? The purchaser decides who it wishes to train. It could be an employee, a student, a contract employee, volunteer or anyone the administrator chooses. Some site licenses are limited to geographic areas or some defined number of computers. This site license is not so limited. Generally, access (booklets, cards and access codes) will made available to students, staff, faculty, employees, and others affiliated with the college or university, non-profit organization or military service. The site license holder is responsible for providing its members with its organizational access code and appropriate URL. In this license, reselling or for-profit use of the individual accounts is prohibited. Back to top 3. What is the annual maintenance fee and what does it cover? There is no annual maintenance fee. All program upgrades to the QPR Online Gatekeeper training are included in the site license fee. Back to top 4. What sort of access does the QPR site license give us? Your organization’s members will have unlimited access to QPR online training for those associated with your organization up to the number of participants paid for in the site license. QPR online training is available 24/7 from any internet connection and for any PC or Mac computer, whether in your work site or from the participant’s home computer. Each account opened remains activated for three years. Back to top 5. Can we customize the gatekeeper training program for referral resources and phone numbers for our organization? Yes. All referrals are local. We provide a template for customizing the program for your participants. Back to top 6. We don’t have a lot of money for suicide prevention education. Can we afford it? We invite you to compare costs to train suicide prevention Gatekeepers. E-learning and web-based technologies offer steep savings in the delivery of standardized training programs like QPR gatekeeper training. Preventing a single suicide attempt that leads to a hospital visit, even when there is a non-fatal outcome, has been shown to save in excess of $15,000 dollars in direct medical costs. Preventing a fatal outcome is invaluable. Back to top 7. Can we host the program so that it is accessible through our existing web site? Yes. Our webmaster will link your web site to a customized landing page to the QPR Online Gatekeeper training so that a seamless presentation is made to participants. Back to top 8. Some of us prefer face-to-face training, do we have that option? Can we blend the online training with face-to-face training? The smallest site license (for 500 participants) includes one QPR Certified Gatekeeper Instructor's Self Study Course and two advanced online courses. For each additional 2,500 persons covered in the site license, an additional self-study QPR Certified Gatekeeper Instructor's Self Study Course and two more advanced online courses are included in the site license fee. The QPR Certified Gatekeeper Instructors may teach QPR face-to-face or conduct follow up or review sessions. This self-study program is widely used and highly valued by participants. Those who complete the QPR Certified Gatekeeper Instructor's Self Study Course have the option to teach the program in a traditional classroom setting for up to three years, after which another three-year certification fee is assessed. Back to top 9. What ongoing program support is included? All QPR Certified Gatekeeper Instructors receive quarterly email newsletters and free program upgrades as they become available. A password protected area of our Web site is available to them as a resource center. Online Gatekeeper training upgrades are included. We also encourage blending the QPR Online Training with follow on or review sessions so that role-plays, questions and answer periods, crisis response and referral networks can be reviewed in small groups. By blending QPR online with face-to-face follow on sessions, staff working swing and midnight shifts can complete the required training, print their certificate and receive the follow on sessions at shift-change meetings. Back to top 10. Can more than one person take QPR training online using the same pass code? No. The QPR online program is engineered to identify a single participant by his or her name, User ID and Password. After successful completion of the training, a certificate with that person’s name appears on a printable Certificate of Course Completion. The certificate is stamped with time and date. Back to top 11. I am a program manager. Can I monitor staff learning activity and generate e-mail reminders to employees and their supervisors when training requirements are overdue? Yes. The site license includes password protected educational management tools that allow the designated program administrator to receive reports on learning outcomes and to send reminders to participants who have not completed their training with a single click of the mouse. Back to top 12. Are sound cards required for courses? Yes. QPR training programs include voice over lectures, video, flash photography and music. Back to top 13. Is QPR a “best
practices” program? Yes. You may review the QPR fact sheet at
the best practices registry at: sprc.org 14. We are instituting annual mandatory suicide prevention training. How would QPR online training meet this expectation? The QPR online training program has been engineered to provide both initial training and a certificate to a single individual only after the participant has successfully completed pre-post surveys, the evaluation of their learning experience, and passed a 15-item quiz at 80% correct. After completing the program the first time, the program resets itself so that core elements of the training can be retaken at six month or one year intervals for three consecutive years, thus allowing up to six retraining/review sessions. Only after a passing score is earned can the Certificate of Course Completion be printed. The program prints the date and time the quiz was passed on each occasion. Back to top 15. How does the cost of the online training program compare to face-to-face training? We have reviewed all the relevant e-learning vs. traditional classroom learning literature to answer this question. We are happy to provide you a summary of our review, but the main findings are the e-learning saves roughly 50% of training costs with no loss of student performance, retention or satisfaction with a fact-based learning experience. We have conducted a cost comparison for online QPR training vs. classroom delivery using a 25-person average group size. When considering travel for instructors and students, snacks, instructor time, instructor turnover and retraining, room scheduling and other incidentals, our estimated cost to train one QPR Gatekeeper in an average classroom setting is $24.80. The site license fee to train one participant includes unlimited access to the training for the next three years, inclusive of testing, scoring and issuance of certificates. Cost savings are dramatic when large volumes of people are trained. The online program also has a free depression screening, multiple web links and other resources. The more people trained, the less expensive it becomes, and the more likely an organization is to detect an at-risk person. Back to top 16. Our state is mandating two hours of suicide prevention training for some professionals. Can QPR online meet this requirement? The QPR online or face-to-face training programs are designed to meet these new requirements. In addition to the online core 60-90 minute learning experience, additional time may be spent in small group Q&A sessions, referral and crisis response review or in reading additional core content provided both in the online and classroom experience. For example, participants may be directed to read the free e-book Suicide: The Forever Decision as it is linked directly to the online training. A number of resource rich Web sites are also included. Back to top 17. What are the main advantages of QPR online training? Beyond saving time and money, here are the key advantages: self-paced learning, elimination of variance in instructor bias and teaching effectiveness, easy tracking of student participation, always current course content, “just in time” training for new hires or new students or military or police recruits and learners can access training from work or home or even some mobile devices. Finally, should an emergency situation arise, access to review of the QPR program is available 24/7. Back to top 18. How can we keep track of staff or student course completion? There are two ways, one simple and one high tech. The high tech approach is described in number 11 above (using reporting software provided in the license). A simple way to assure that participants have completed the training program is to ask them to print two copies of their Certificate of Course Completion when they pass the final quiz. They keep one and give the other to whomever the organization wishes to designate. Back to top 19. Why don’t we get all the QPR booklets and access codes right away? Our experience has shown that while training 100% of all participants is the desired goal and unless QPR training is mandatory, this goal can be difficult to accomplish. In order to not waste paper and ink, we send only 25% of the materials at the time the contract is signed. However, we are happy to send additional packets of materials in bundles of 25% of the total at any time you desire. Back to top 20. We are a college/university, how does the site license work for us? The site license offered here is based upon the number of individuals - whether students, staff or faculty - you may wish to train. Unlike some site licenses based on student FTEs, this license is unrestricted insofar as the program administrator may provide QPR booklets, cards, User IDs and passwords to anyone he or she chooses, including non university-affiliated persons. If you have multiple campuses in different geographic areas you will need to ship booklets, cards and access codes to these sites from the main address of the licensee (where the materials will be shipped by us) Back to top 21. We are a non-profit organization. Is there a price break for non-profits? No. This site license fee is for government, educational and non-profit organizations. Our goal is to make the training widely available at the lowest sustainable cost to participating organizations. Back to top 22. We intend to train thousands of people. Can the QPR booklets be customized for our organization or community? Yes. Our printer will work with your artists to customize the QPR booklet to your color, logo and phone numbers. The booklets come printed with User IDs and passwords. You will need to supply the organizational code and web entry point (your web site or URL) to participants. Minimum customized orders are 2,500 copies. There is a $475.00 customization and shipping fee for each print run. Back to top 23. Can we get specialized reports from our database, for example, statistical analysis of learning outcomes, attitude changes and the like? Yes. On request, our staff will access your secure database and conduct statistical analysis of outcomes according your instructions. We can conduct any number of pre-post training comparisons, changes in knowledge, attitude and perceived self-efficacy including tests of significance. Our researchers can also conduct follow on studies if they are desired. Please contact us for options and pricing. Back to top If you have additional questions, please send them to Brian Quinnett |
